William Arthur Ward

William Arthur Ward is one of America’s most quoted writers of inspirational words. He received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Oklahoma City University in acknowledgement of his literary contributions, professional achievements, and humanitarian work. He served on the Board of Members of the Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, and the Rotary. His biography appears in both Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.

William Arthur Ward was born and raised in Louisiana. In 1942, he entered the United States Army at the age of 21. In four years of military service he rose to the rank of Captain, serving time in the Philippines.

Ward’s higher education began in Oklahoma and continued at the doctorate level at the University of Texas and North Texas State University. Ward thrived in multiple fields being a pastor, educator, member of the boards of various civic organizations, and author of inspirational columns and books. In the 1960’s he became a constant contributor to the “Fort Worth Star-Telegram” with his column Pertinent Proverbs. His writing graced the pages of “Reader’s Digest” and many Christian, multi-denominational, and educational publications.

William Arthur Ward’s very purpose was to inspire and to encourage. He remains one of the most referenced writers in the magazine for public speakers appropriately titled “Quote.” His most well-known book, Fountains of Faith, expresses by its title alone, Ward’s appreciation for the flowing nature of goodness and inspiration.
